Why Go To Laketrails?

Although it’s been a few years, I have a clear memory of what my life was like in middle school and high school.  Middle school was all about trying to fit in for me.  Then high school was all about being different.  Every one of those years, I wanted to do something “different.”  How cool would it have been to be the first of my friends to go to Laketrails?!  Flipping and portaging a canoe by myself, bogging up to my waist, boiling and spinning a pot of coffee over a campfire, night paddling by a full moon, landing at a campsite not visited in years, catching and eating my own fish supper, navigating by chart and compass on the lake, paddling 100 miles or more in a week…  There aren’t many adults who ever get to try these things.

I wish I’d had the chance to be a camper at Laketrails and try something new when I was a teen.  And, I’m glad I was finally able to capture that chance when I got a bit older.
